I have the honour to report the following facts re-
garding the emanrgo laid by the Provincial Goverment of
Canton on the quarrying and export of limestone on be-
half of the Green Island Camant Company, a British Com-
pany of Hongkong.
This Company, of which keesre Showan, Tomes & Com
pany are General ilanagore, have procured their supplies
of limestone for some twenty years past through Chinese
contraetore from quarries on the North and West Rivera.
In 1906 their late llongkong compradors, a British sub-
ject of Chinese descent, who by the exercise of dual
nationality required on his own account the Fei-shu
quarry in the Ying-ts district on the liorth River, WILB
deprived of it by the Imperial Authorities on the ground
that foreignere could not hold land in the interior, and
it was by then sealed up. This is the only instance on
